Stop Waging War on the Ego
by Virginia Underwood
(and while we're at it — let’s talk about cancel culture, political correctness, and the illusion of moral high ground)
I’m not here to kill the ego.
I’m here to integrate it.
To make peace with it.
To listen to it without letting it drive the car.
Because here’s the truth: the ego is not evil — it’s wounded. It’s a survival strategy, a protector, a child in armor.
And this war we’re waging — on ourselves, on others — in the name of purity, progress, or even spirituality? It’s just another ego trap.
Yes, even the parts of us that seem "awake" or "politically correct" or "morally superior" can be rooted in ego. Especially when they become rigid, reactive, and self-righteous.
We’ve created a culture so quick to cancel, to call out, to declare others “unacceptable,” “toxic,” or “evil,” that we’ve forgotten the difference between discernment and judgment.
We’ve forgotten that calling someone out doesn’t necessarily mean calling them in.
And that real transformation doesn’t happen through shaming — it happens through courageous self-reflection and compassion.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t hold people accountable.
I am saying that outrage is not the same as wisdom.
And self-righteousness is often just the ego in a prettier outfit.
We cannot truly create a world of peace while we are at war with parts of ourselves — or each other.
So what if instead of trying to cancel the world, we got radically honest about what we’re still trying to cancel in ourselves?
What if every trigger, every reaction, every judgment was an invitation?
Not to bypass or condone harm — but to excavate the layers of our own unintegrated pain.
To heal the parts that need love, not exile.
This is the deeper work. The unsexy work. The uncomfortable, revolutionary work of integration.
Because wholeness doesn’t come from perfection —
It comes from inclusion.
Let’s stop playing spiritual dodgeball and start telling the truth about our own shadows.
💥 Integration over cancellation.
💥 Accountability over shame.
💥 Compassion over control.
We need a new way. And it starts within.
